MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Parents were furious after learning a man offered a 10-year-old one dollar for sex.

To make matters worse, the alleged incident happened at a public library.

“I’m just tired of kids getting hurt,” said Sherette Banks a mother of nine.

Banks didn’t hold back tears after learning Cary Cooper was accused of offering a child money for sex at a library on North Hollywood.

“A dollar- a baby. A baby! 10-years-old,” she said.

According to court documents, the victim’s mother told police Cooper sent sexually explicit messages to the child through Facebook.

The two we’re sitting next to each other and using the computers at the library.

“I just think it’s sad and it’s not right that people take advantage of the kids,” Banks said.

The Memphis Police Department’s Community Outreach Office was connected to the library.

Officers arrested Cooper as soon as they got the complaint.

When police searched his account, they found messages where Cooper asked the child her age and to have sex with him.

“Any case like that of a man messing with a child should be locked up. They shouldn’t have no kind of freedom whatsoever,” said Willie Jones, a grandparent.

WREG saw a sign that said “safe place” and it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the library.

Parents aren’t so sure how safe their children really are.

They told WREG there have been a lot of drug dealers and gang members who hang out around there.

Cooper will face a judge Monday.

His bond is set for$250,000.
