JACKSON, Tenn. — Shona Carter-Brooks, who lives in Jackson, is getting a lot of unwanted attention due to an unusual flourish on her wedding dress.

Guests at Shona’s wedding were surprised to see her 1-month-old daughter on the train of her dress.

In Facebook photos, the child can be see laying on her side on the train, near the very bottom of the middle edge.

The bride’s sister, Marcy Wright, admitted, “She didn’t plan it. If she did, she didn’t tell anyone about it.”

While most of her guests seem to appreciate the unusual way Shona incorporated her daughter Aubrey in her wedding, not everyone was so complimentary.

On her Facebook page, Shona wrote:

“The answer is we do what we want when we want long as Jesus on our side everything worked out fine and gone continue to be fine. Our 1 month old was awake and well secured on my train. Most important while yall got ya feelings in us we had our hearts in Christ which covers all!! So keep ya mouths running for it was just that Exclusive and Epic enough we made top blog way from small town Ripley, TN and the social media doing what they do, TALK!!!!”

Shona’s sister told WREG-TV the baby was placed on the train, a photo was taken and the baby was picked up. She clarified the child was not dragged down the aisle on the train.

The bride’s cousin, Jeffrey Preston, said, “People just saw the picture and said, ‘Oh! The baby’s being dragged up the aisle!’ The baby was not dragged. The baby was laid on the train for a photo shot of them coming into the church.”

A friend who apparently attended the wedding wrote, “Shona and Johnathan Brooks your wedding was super perfect from the groom and his men and you and your diva’s baby you rock the gown and the princess tagging behind you it brought tears to my eyes. Regardless of anybody else dream your’s came true. I loved it and thank you for inviting me.”

The photo is all over the Internet, and many are not waiting for explanations before judging.

“Some of it is just outrageous and ridiculous,” Wright said, shaking her head.

Preston added, “People are blowing it out of proportion, like she had her baby by the arm just dragging it down the aisle.”

Others think the bride could soon be cashing in on her creativity.

Ripley resident Zannie Barbie said, “Maybe she’ll end up on Oprah or on a TV show some where.”

However, Preston said the picture was just about what all weddings should be about – love.

“I thought it was beautiful,” he said. “If we could do it again, we’d do it again!”

Carter-Brooks’ family said she did expect people to talk about the photograph, but did not expect the national attention it is now receiving.
