MEMPHIS, Tenn. — “To those people who did it man — you’re heartless and you really don’t know what you’ve done to the city of Memphis,” Timothy Jordan said.

Emotions are raw for friends and family of Jarmelle “JoJo” Jones, who was murdered inside of his Cordova home Friday.

Police said two men, masked and armed with a gun, broke into the house and killed Jones.

“A friend just ran out in the room and just was like, ‘He’s dead. Jojo is dead’,” Jordan said of how he received the horrifying news.

Jordan and Jones have been friends since they were children.

“He was like a little brother,” Jordan said. “He graduated a year after me in high school. We went to middle school together, high school together, college together.”

Jones was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at the University of Memphis.

JoJo was known across the city as a club promoter and a mentor to younger kids.

“He would literally give you money out his pocket, shoes off his feet, clothes, food,” Jordan said.

Police are still investigating the shooting and have no idea who shot Jones and his girlfriend, who was released from the hospital on Monday, according to police.

Friends want to know who committed the crime and why anyone would kill the man who they said left an impact as big as his heart.

“For me it was more than just a fraternity bond. He was my brother for real. He was a really good friend. And I never will forget him,” Jordan said.
